Carpet Cleaning - How to remove stains and spots

It's important to act fast, when you stain a carpet, but even though you should be acting immediately, a short time to reflect and prepare is better than doing the wrong thing. (There are quite a few ways to make a stain permanent, see bottom of the page for things to avoid). Carpet cleaning is not all that difficult, just follow the advice below:

Carpet Cleaning Rules: This will bring the desired result

• Use a clean white, absorbent terry towel or plenty of household paper.
• Blot or tamp the spot  -- don't brush!!
• Pretest the carpet in an inconspicuous area.
• Clean the stain from the edge to the center  --  don't spread it.
• Apply cleaner to the towel  --  not to the carpet.
• Clean with modest amounts of cleaning solution.
• Dilute the solution sufficiently, better dilute it too thin.
• Adhere to product safety and follow instructions.
• Remove the stain as soon as it is noticed.
• Remove the dirty excess before cleaning.
• Use cleaning compounds at luke warm temperature.

Following the above rules will bring your carpet cleaning efforts to a good end and you'll be able to enjoy your clean carpet for a long time. On the other hand, there are some no-no's in carpet cleaning that you should strictly observe, unless you want our carpet cleaning to end in total disaster:

Carpet Cleaning Rules: Don't do any of these:

• Use a dirty or coloured rag.
• Rub, brush or scrape the spot using force.
• Pretest the carpet in the middle of the room.
• Clean the stain from side to side.
• Apply cleaners directly to the stain.
• Saturate the spot with cleaners.
• Ignore manufacturers instructions.
• Ignore the stain or leave it until later.
• Wet clean before removing the dry excess.
• Apply heat to the stain.

Even if you follow the above rules for cleaning your carpet, the result may vary. There are stains that can not be entirely eliminated. But if you act fast and sensible, you will at least be able to reduce the damage.

Careful!!! - How NOT To Clean A Carpet

The following carpet cleaning typs are a great way to ruin your carpet for good and fix the stains for all time in your rug or carpet. Don't do this:

• Saturate the carpet with cleaning compounds.
• Apply heat to the stain.
• Vigorously scrub the stain.
• Leave the stain until later.
• Not removing any dry excess prior to cleaning.
• Not pretesting the carpet in an inconspicuous spot.
